An Auto Goddess in the Making
Born into a mechanical family of men I learned from a very young age how to hang with the boys. Through the years I came to realize that because of my upbringing being at ease within diverse atmospheres was truly a blessing. Possessing many interests was also something which helped guide me to who I am today – A female in what is still a very male-oriented world.
Toss in my love for motor sports and automotive journalism and I sometimes find myself to be the only one of my gender reporting from the sidelines of racetracks, monster truck rally’s and Supercross events. Thankfully there have been a few kind and accepting fellas along the way who have inspired me as well as wonderful women (some whom I do not even know) but inspire me just the same.
It is these unsung females within all aspects of the automotive realm who put forth 1,000 percent of themselves within the industry and yet receive very little acknowledgement. These fearless females have paved the way to allow more and more of my gender to be a part of this industry that I love.
When I was little my dad took me to Gainesville, FL to attend NHRAs Gator National’s annual weekend of competition. I will never forget my quest and then accomplishment of finding Shirley Muldowney’s rig and her famous pink dragster located in the pit area. I couldn’t get myself and my little camera anywhere near her but thankfully I was only 10 years-old so was able to duck and weave under the larger adults, run up to the front of the crowd and shoot the picture of Ms. Shirley that I still have and cherish today.
With that memory and the excitement of that moment I hope to be a part of bringing ladies in all automotive realms to the forefront of the industry. We may be considered a minority, but to little girls (like I was) we are part of something very special.
