The Andrade family enjoyed the show andall the wonderful treats at Cancuns and the Show. (Previous Photo) The Campbell's 1937 Cadillac 6519 Retro Rod (on the left) is named after a vintage TV character, "Boston Blackie". The car on the right is 'Max', the Campbell's 1939 black and silver Ford sedan with LS1 Corvette engine and Ostrich leather seats.
There was a vast selection of vehicles participating in the event from many different eras and genre’s.
Jerry Jackson, an entrant in the show, brought his 1968 Chevelle 427 with a 671 Supercharger. “Currently the car is for sale. It has won many awards including the Street Machine Class in the 2009 Ft. Worth Rod and Custom show,” Jackson said.
Many of the club members on-hand are also affiliated with The Good Guy’s Rod and Custom Association and the Antique Automotive Association. One such couple is Arlyn and Lora Campbell. The Campbell’s enjoy taking a few vehicles from their personal fleet to local and, on occasion, national shows.
At Saturday’s event, the Campbells brought a highly-finished 1937 Cadillac 6519 model four-door, “We call the Cadi ‘Boston Blackie’, after the 1920s Private Eye Mystery Show,” Mrs. Campbell said. The Campbell’s also brought one of their two 1939 Ford Sedans, One equipped with an LS1 Corvette engine and a Magnum Supercharger. “My brother Mark owns a custom car shop in Mena, Arkansas named Street and Performance,” Arlyn said. Mark’s aftermarket and customization work is very well known, especially in the vehicle aftermarket realms. “He won ‘Manufacturer of the Year’ at SEMA and an award from The National Street Rodder Association.”
The Campbell’s spare no expense when it comes to re-creating and customizing their classic cars. “We named our 1939 (black and silver) sedan ‘Max’ and recently installed custom upholstered black ostrich leather seats,” Campbell said. “The leather is the same kind you would use on boots.” The leather is elegant and extremely soft, and adds additional luxury to this highly detailed machine.
The Campbell’s appreciate their vehicles and even built a car barn specifically for their collection. “We have a couple of our vehicles which are currently being restored but the rest of our cars are ready to go and show,” Mrs. Campbell said. The Campbell fleet includes Max’ twin, Maxine. She is also a black and silver 1939 Ford sedan but, unlike Max, has a convertible top.
Maxine belongs to Lora and it’s obvious when one sees how this lady beams when showing pictures and speaking of her savvy show car.
Both Max and Maxine feature Coast to Coast fiberglass bodies and, “We had both cars built from the ground up by Carl’s Automotive in Red Oak,” Arlyn said. The only difference between the twin cars’ engines is that Max’s includes a supercharger. The Campbell’s enjoy taking both Max and Maxine out for drives, shows or just cruising, “This is what we love to do,” Mrs. Campbell said.
