The luxury SUVs cargo consisted of sports legends, top GM executives (including Ed Peper,General Sales Manager of the Cadillac Division and Don Butler, Cadillac’s United States Marketing Vice President) and representatives from numerous charitable organizations.
Once they arrived, Drew Pearson, who will lead Team Escalade Texas, made introductions of all participating athletes including Olympian’s Carly Patterson and Zina Garrison and NFL and NHL sports legends Daryl “Moose” Johnston, Everson Walls, Brian Cardinal, Randy White, Alphonso Roundtree and Mike Modano, (who just announced his NHL retirement this week.)
Once introduced, Pearson explained how the stars will raise funds in teams and how each team will support a chosen charitable organization. The charities include Ronald McDonald House, YMCA, Special Olympics, CureDuchenne (funds research for Duchenne’s disease), Taylor’s Gift (encourages organ donation), and team Love Hope Strength against cancer.
Thursday’s official kick-off for Team Escalade Texas was the beginning of this multimarket, multimedia campaign in Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and San Antonio. The campaign will run until October 30. Team Escalade Texas has two goals – to educate fellow Texans about the selected charitable organizations and to increase interest, volunteers and donations for the charities.
The public is invited to participate by logging onto www.teamescaladetexas.com where they will learn more about the chosen organizations and how to pass along information about the Team Escalade site to friends. There will be information about donating online and even meeting the celebrities at different events throughout the state. The schedule of events as well as donation and volunteer opportunities can be found on the site as well.
One local DFW sports hero is not only looking forward to this opportunity to support this cause, he is also excited to spend personal time in growing his non-profit organizations as well. Since he just announced his retirement on Wednesday, Mike Modano shared his plans for the present and immediate future. “I plan on doing some broadcasting, relaxing and taking it easy,” Modano discussed in a personal interview. “I Will also be getting more involved with my foundation (Mike Modano Foundation, Inc.), working with Randy Galloway, his radio show, and helping him spread the word about the ease of bone marrow testing and donation.”
The stars on Team Escalade not only shined brightly, their hearts for helping others radiated just as brilliantly.
